Nordic Innovation House
is a physical and digital meeting place for Nordic organizations and innovative companies aiming to collaborate and benefit from Silicon Valley’s unique innovation climate. The house serves as a landing platform for startups looking to establish themselves in Silicon Valley.
Anna Delin is one of Sweden’s representatives on site.
Why is Vinnova present in Silicon Valley, and how can Nordic Innovation House support Swedish companies?
“Silicon Valley is a global hub for innovation, research, and technology, with a strong presence of venture capital. It's a place where tech companies, government agencies, and world-class universities collaborate in unique ways. Being here helps us understand how this successful ecosystem works and enables us to foster collaborations between Nordic and American players. We help sharpen Swedish companies’ global competitiveness. For startups entering the U.S. market, we also provide a soft landing to explore their opportunities,” says Anna.
What advantages can Nordic companies find in the U.S.?
“The Nordics have a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, for example in medtech and climate tech—areas that attract local companies and investors. There’s also interest in Sweden’s consistent top rankings on global innovation indexes.”
Supporting Swedish Startups
Located in Palo Alto near Stanford University, Nordic Innovation House connects Nordic and American actors, promoting mutual understanding and collaboration. Under a shared Nordic brand, the region’s small countries become stronger together.
Events and meetings are organized regularly, including the annual Bifrost conference, with dedicated initiatives for startups.
“Nordic Innovation House offers not only a physical workspace but also a valuable network of mentors, investors, and potential partners. We run two accelerator programs—TINC and REACH—which support startups exploring opportunities, scaling up, and entering the U.S. market.”
What is the biggest challenge for a Swedish startup in the U.S.?
“Adapting to the fast-paced ‘Silicon Valley mindset,’ which emphasizes customer acquisition and global scalability. We help companies navigate the complex U.S. market, connecting them with the Silicon Valley ecosystem for partnerships and knowledge exchange. Startups receive support with business development, pitch training, growth hacking, scaling strategies, networking, and fundraising.”
Who can become a member of Nordic Innovation House?
“We have over 160 members, including startups, companies, universities, and government agencies from across the Nordics. We often work with thematic focuses in areas where the Nordic region can make a strong impact. Right now, that includes deep tech and disruptive technologies like quantum, XR (extended reality), and AI—along with other technologies crucial for tackling societal challenges.”
Storytelling Is Key to Success
Any advice for Swedish companies looking to enter Silicon Valley?
“There are cultural differences, especially in work culture and risk appetite. Life in Silicon Valley is fast-paced and driven by growth, high risk, and high return on investment.”
Anna pauses thoughtfully.
“It’s also important to have a story that evokes emotion. People want to feel personally engaged before they invest in you.”
